A Personal Christmas Gift List for Adventurers

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, and it’s been noticed that a festive gift list has never been published on this site. It seems about time this oversight was resolved, so here’s the MalloryOnTravel adventurers Christmas gift list 2018, I hope you find something for the adventurer in your life. There is still time!

Adventurers come in all shapes, sizes and attitudes, and the ethos of this site is that adventure is a matter of attitude, therefore the carefully chosen gifts are varied and should suit a variety of traveller types.

Discussing adventure: An Attitude for Adventure

Hammock – ranging from a sheet of parachute silk suspended by paracord to lightweight sleep systems with mosquito nets and tarps, hammocks are great travel options. From relaxing on a beach to surviving in the jungle, they are essential, and I carry one everywhere! Hennessey Hammocks make premium sleeping systems for any journey, but Simply Hammocks offer a range of simple hammocks and accessories.

Manfrotto BeFree Tripod – one item which is likely to improve your adventurer’s photography is a tripod, especially landscape photography. It allows for greater use of creativity, long exposures, use of filters and low light photography. However, a heavy tripod is likely to remain at home, so choosing one from the Manfrotto BeFree range will ensure it is available when needed.

Rohan Freelance Shirt – versatility is key when choosing travel clothing, and this shirt fits the bill. Durable enough to wear on the hills, but smart enough for a business lunch, or drinks with friends. Made from technical fabrics, it packs small, wicks moisture away, offers UPF protection and anti-odour control, perfect for any adventure. For women there is the Homestead shirt.

Multitool – come on, no self-respecting adventurer goes anywhere without a multitool. Leatherman, Gerber and Victorinox have great ranges which will undoubtedly impress the MacGyver in your life.

EagleCreek Pack-It Specter Cube/Tube – regardless whether your adventurer prefers a suitcase, duffel or backpack being organised is essential. Searching for those spare socks in the deepest depths of the luggage on a cold, dark night will be a thing of the past if a couple of these beauties are used.

Xenvo SmartPhone Camera Lens Pro – the best camera is the one you are carrying, and in the modern era obsessed with lightweight gear and selfies, a smartphone is often the only choice. These nifty little lens kits will improve the results from any Android/iPhone smartphone, offering wide-angle and macro options.

Brasher Men’s Country Traveller Boot – Like clothing, versatile footwear reduces the requirement to carry several pairs of shoes. These cover for a trek in the hills or dinner in a restaurant, equally at home in either situation. Add some warm socks and they are even suitable for mild winter conditions. Paired with some trekking sandals and all footwear situations are pretty much covered. The women’s option is the Country Walker boot.

Clothing for travel: City Break; Multi-Activity Clothing Options

Water to Go Filtration Bottle – unsure of the water in the destination they will be travelling to, just pack one of these. Good for 200 litres of water, the simple filter in the neck of the bottle allows drinking straight from the tap or stream. Eliminating 99% of bacteria, chemicals and viruses. Plus, it saves waste from plastic bottles!

CleverTrips Universal Travel Power Adapter – with all the gadgets the average adventurer carries a means of charging them is essential. One adaptor suitable for most countries, and including USB charging makes life much simpler. There are plenty of good options available, but this is the one I use, and so far, it’s not let me down.

Rohan Newtown T-shirt – it’s hard to beat a t-shirt,both for looking cool and keeping cool. Made from a blend of cutting edge technical fibres this one is comfortable in any conditions, great for moisture control, easy wash and quick drying. For women choose the Women’s Essence T.

Hip Flask – regardless of where they travel, another must have item, obviously filled with their favourite tipple. Whether drinking alone or being sociable, they should never be without a hip flask!

If you’re looking for suitable refreshments to fill the flask, I can suggest a few of those too, but any good single malt would be a good start.
