Postcard from a Moroccan vineyard

Yet another view from a lovely little vineyard near Essaouira in Morocco.

I really love this image, did right from the moment I saw these items hanging on the line. I find laundry hanging on a line strangely photogenic and rarely pass up an opportunity to capture an image, they usually bring a smile to my face later.

A slightly different postcard today though, instead of informing its querying. They look like damaged sombreros but trust me they aren’t!

Do you know what these are used for? Hanging out on a line they are obviously something to do with the wine producing process but what do you think their specific purpose is? Please add your informed opinions to the comments.
