Postcard from a picture perfect jetty, Switzerland

I just love views like this one, as you might have guessed from the similar image of Derwentwater in the English Lakes.

This one is from the jetty at Weggis on the shores of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, a pretty little alpine village with a cable car to the top of the Rigi Kulm.

The best way to visit is almost certainly by cruise ship from the quay in Lucerne, taking about 45 minutes it is a pleasant cruise with amazing views of the surrounding mountains. Apart from the Rigi there is Mount Pilatus and the peaks of the Bernese Alps, a feast for the eyes of any mountain lover.

The lake is the fourth largest in Switzerland and is known as “Lake of the Four Forested Cantons” which originally bordered it. It is fed from the Reuss River, which famous Lucerne straddles.

A lake cruise with a couple of stop-offs is the perfect way to spend a day here, whatever the time of year and it would be a shame to visit without enjoying this simple pleasure. It is possible to enjoy a meal and glass of wine on board too, Now surely that got your attention!
