Postcard from dark skies over French La Rochelle

A dramatic sky over the French region of Poitou-Charentes is almost reminiscent of something from the film “Independence Day”. It was possible to almost imagine the clouds parting and a huge spaceship emerging to threaten World domination.

In the event nothing quite so exciting or spectacular happened during this visit to the lovely city of La Rochelle, but it is still worthy of exploring.

There is plenty to see, wandering around the picturesque streets discovering yet another place of historic interest before heading to the harbour for great views and perhaps experimenting with one of the almost extraterrestrial ice cream flavours. How about potato or chocolate and sea salt flavour?

The Aquarium is rated one of the best in Europe, we spent longer there than expected and its restaurant also provides some great seafood dishes.

Relaxing on a catamarran on the Atlantic, enjoying a magical sunset cruise before returning to the harbour once more to hopefully enjoy skies just like this one.
