Postcard from exploring Marrakech

As a special treat today’s postcard has two of my favourite images from exploring Marrakech. The souks are where the majority of travellers will wile away a few hours searching for souvenirs and hoping to find a bargain.

The backstreets which makeup the labyrinth of the medina are worth taking a detour or two, getting lost for a few hours will provide plenty of opportunities to discover something different.

Beggars, often women with children will be the most common heart-wrenching encounter but occasionally a vendor selling street food or, spices, cool handcrafted leather, maybe even some colourful paintings. Perhaps there is a bar d0wn there too, well maybe not!

I love the contrast between the images, the sun streaming through on the browsers of the souks and the almost dark feeling of the medina.

Marrakech has plenty of options to explore for those prepared to wander away from the main tourist areas. Remain comfortable with any area that is wandered into and it will be a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
