A morning cruise on Lake Lucerne provided some great light, which was actually quite unexpected. The early light was being diffused through the clouds producing this beautiful scene, which almost appeared like sunrise even though it was mid-morning.
The cruises leave regularly from the main quay near the railway station and KKL and stops off at Weggis and Vitznau both of which provide access to the Rigi Kulm. It is possible to get to the top by funicular railway or cable car.
It is certainly worth a visit to the top even if skiing is not possible, it is known as the “Queen of the Mountains” at 1797m it provides some stunning views. There is also a cafe at the top which does a great goulasch soup and other snacks.
Taking a wander around one of the pretty alpine villages, enjoying a coffee and cake or possibly a meal in one of the restaurants make a pleasant day excursion.
A cruise around lovely Lake Lucerne and its stopping off points can easily take a whole day and is highly recommended. The round trip remaining on the boat takes around 2 hours but a more relaxed journey visiting the alpine villages and surrounding peaks can last as long as required.
