Witnessing the magical hues of a sunrise as it gradually goes through its full repertoire of rainbow colours can be mesmersing. These colours are reflected and diffused by the low lying mist in the extinct volcanoes and valleys far beneath the basket.
The volcanoes may not be about to erupt. There may not be any flowing lava or molten rock or huge plumes of gases being thrown high into the atmosphere but the stunning scenery and tranquility of the moment more than compensates.
This is also a great reason to get up early when in the mountains, there is often a temperature inversion. This is where if high enough it is possible to look down upon the clouds as they creep through the valleys below, like an ethereal serpent. It is a scene that I never tire of witnessing.
This is an extremely beautiful adventure. There can be few better ways to enjoy any landscape than hitching a ride on a ‘chariot’ that drifts on the air currents, catch one if you can.
