This simple image of a carousel in Montauban in the Midi-Pyrénées region of southern France always brings some happy thoughts and a smile.
It was not in use the day I visited but the promise of taking a ride on it should all have children jumping for joy. There are many city centres that have carousels they are often in full use providing ‘children’ of all ages with a ride at any day of the week.
Montauban is a small city and capital of the Tarn-et-Garonne department and located quite close to Toulouse,
It is one of the oldest cities built in the bastide style althought the original fortifications have been transformed into boulevards which extend from the central square. This would orginally have been the market square and the hub of all activity in the city.
This makes it relatively easy to navigate and finding the main sites from the Cathedral which is in the main square to the museums and art galleries is not difficult. Take a moment to stop at one of the excellent coffee shops or patisseries before later enjoying the cuisine of one of the many recommended restaurants.
One final piece of advice visit on the weekend when the carousel maybe working, that is my plan for a return visit!
